Who we are

The American arm of Ropen Coffee & Fine Foods

TerraNova Coffee LLC is a USA-registered company affiliated to Ropen Coffee & Fine Foods Limited in Kiambu, Kenya, from where we source Kenyan specialty coffee. Everything we ship comes out of that relationship — the same farms, the same practices, the same people.

  • Contracting estate farms and guiding them on the good agricultural practices the specialty market requires
  • Ensuring a steady supply of single-origin, traceable specialty coffee
  • Providing a guaranteed market for contracted farmers
  • Practising fair trade, and continuing the welfare of the aged women who planted coffee in the Kenyan highlands in the early 1950s

Our coffee story

Farms that came back to the families who worked them

  1. 1940s–50s

Rural women and children supply the labour on white-settler farms in colonial Kenya.

  2. 1963

Upon independence, many farms revert to indigenous communities through controlled sale programmes — one of our source farms, Njagũ Coffee, among them.

  3. Today

Many of the seedlings planted then are still yielding coffee, though more disease-resistant varieties have been introduced since.

Fair trade, and where the proceeds go

Part of our coffee proceeds goes to support aged women welfare programmes in the local communities — the women who planted these farms in the first place.
